Mayor and Chief Unveil New “Public – Private Partnership” Vehicle
Mayor Richard Hill and Chief Doug Larsson unveiled the newest member of the Village fleet at the Round Lake High School Homecoming Parade on Saturday September 16. The new Specialty Police Vehicle (SPV) is a joint venture between private sector businesses and the Village to help educate the public about transportation and traffic safety.
The Police Department wanted a vehicle that would capture the public’s attention at various events with an emphasis on younger drivers under 25 years old. The vehicle is a fully operational police car, which will also be used by the Patrol Unit to patrol the neighborhoods and enforce traffic laws. The car, a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and all equipment associated with it were obtained without using any taxpayer money.
The vehicle was donated by
Ray Chevrolet of Fox Lake
with added financial support from Dave’s Transmissions of Round Lake Beach
who donated and installed all of the emergency lighting.
Sticker Dude Designs of Lake Zurich
donated the graphic design work for the vehicle.
Some keys points include
- Drivers under 25 are mostly likely to have n accident or become involved in a traffic incident; it is expected that they will take the most interest in the car
- No public money was spent on the project
- Sponsorship includes placement of the sponsor’s name on the car
- The car is available to schools, neighborhood groups, and public gatherings who would like to use it for their event at no charge
Chief Larsson wants to give area business a chance to participate in this partnership by donating funds or equipment in return for advertising and promotion. The Mayor and Chief hope to expand the program in the future with added partnerships. Anyone who would like to learn more please contact Detective Lunn (847) 546-2127 x155.
Also a "Thanks" to Jotto Desk who donated the vehicle’s computer mounting system..
