Village of Round Lake Beach Police Department Racial Profiling
Racial Profiling Data
On January 1, 2004 a law designed to protect minority populations from
biased police techniques went into effect. Commonly called the Racial
Profiling Law, it means that any arrest, detention, or other law
enforcement action that is based solely on the actual or perceived race,
ethnicity, color, national origin or ancestry of a person is prohibited.
In order to comply with the law, we record certain required information.
All police officers collect the name, address, gender, and race of the
person who is stopped by the them, including when and where the stop was
made and whether a search of anyone in the car was conducted or not.
Since the inception of this important law the Round Lake Beach Police
Department has been submitting data collected on every traffic stop that
its police officers make to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The data for the year 2004 has now been analyzed by the Northwestern
University's Center for Public Safety. Should you want an early or
personal look at the results of our traffic stop and law enforcement
efforts, the results have been compiled and the Round Lake Beach Police
Department data is available upon request.
Please let us know you're interested and someone will provide you with
the results.
Racial Profiling – not here, not now, not ever.
